Foreign Minister Steinmeier visits Riyadh

Steinmeier: Saudi Arabia, a Key role player in the Region

Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier visited Riyadh from the 18th to 19th of October. During his meeting with King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Minister of Interior Mohammed Bin Nayef, Deputy Crown Prince and Minister of Defense Mohammed Bin Salman and Foreign Minister Adel Al Jubeir, he mainly discussed the conflicts in the region, especially in Syria and in Yemen. The bilateral meeting between Foreign Minister Steinmeier and Al Jubeir is their third meeting within three months, signs of collaboration on the important political issues in the region.

After the horrible terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday, Germany stands should to shoulder with France, assured Chancellor Angela Merkel. "We will fight by your side against those who have inflicted such inconceivable suffering on you." This attack on liberty targets not only Paris, said the Chancellor. "It targets all of us and it has hit all of us, and that is why we will also all respond together."

The death of Helmut Schmidt fills me with great sorrow. We Germans have lost a father figure. Helmut Schmidt had a profound impact on us and our country. [...]"

The Ambassador

Ambassador Boris Ruge took up his appointment as Germany’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in June 2014. He joined the German Foreign Service six months before the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Most recently, he served as Regional Director Middle East / North Africa at the German Foreign Office in Berlin.
